There's no more poignant word than 'almost'.
I almost got the opportunity.
I almost passed the threshold.
I almost succeeded.
But the point was, I missed out, every time.

The charts below show the proportions of British students at one university in England who were able to speak other languages in addition to English, in 2000 and 2010.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
答案:
The pie charts compare the percentages of the students at a British university who were capable of speaking English and/or other languages in 2000 and 2010.
It is clear that the proportion of the students at the university who had proficiency in one more language in addition to English increased over the 10 years. In contrast, the percentage of students who could only speak one language (English or French) decreased over the same period, while the figure for students with a Spanish proficiency accounted for the majority of language learners in both 2000 and 2010.
In 2010, a total of 35% students spoke at least one more language in addition to English, which was slightly higher by 10 % compared to its corresponding figure (25%) in 2000.
The proportion of students only speaking German remained at 10% in 2000 and 2010. On the other hand, the figures for students excelling at either English or French decreased over the same period, with the former figure declining from 20% to 10% and the latter from 15% to 10%.
